David R. Olan is the founder and President of the Olan Law Corporation, which specializes in civil litigation, and has represented numerous victims of accidents, insurance bad faith and copyright infringement.
From an early age, David's roots were firmly entrenched in the legal world. His father, Bennet Olan, a reputable personal injury and insurance litigation trial attorney in Los Angeles in the 1950’s, continued to practice until he retired in the 1990’s. Inspired by his father’s success and devotion to the law, David developed an avid and lifelong interest in the practice of law, desiring to continue the legacy and pioneering spirit of his father.
David began practicing law in 1989. Working with his father in the early years of his career, David went on to become an established and accomplished trial lawyer before starting Olan Law in 1991.
Recognized for his extensive trial experience, David was invited to join the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) in 2003. In 1997, David was invited to serve on the Board of Governors for the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles. Still an active and dedicated member, he frequently lectures and writes on topics related to litigation.
David graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1985 with a major in Political Science and an emphasis on international relations. Traveling extensively, David spent a junior year in Salzburg, Austria, took frequent trips to Europe and Latin America, and speaks both German and Spanish fluently.
In 1989 David graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law after receiving honors from the Moot court and presiding over the International Law Society. David also served as an intern for the California Coastal Commission. Upon passing the California Bar, David went to the Shotokan Karate School, practicing with discipline and focus and finally earning his black belt in 1995.
An avid outdoors man and surfer, David is also the founder of the Association of Surfing Lawyers, which fosters good will, balance, camaraderie and networking among lawyers. David is a passionate environmentalist and is on the Executive Committee and Legal Issues Team for the Surfrider Foundation (Malibu Chapter).
David has handled many high-profile cases that gained media attention, and has been featured in articles focusing on his life and career, as well as the Association of Surfing Lawyers. Most recently, David was featured on Celebrity Justice representing his client with a copyright infringement case against Britney Spears.
David was born in Hollywood in 1962, grew up largely in Los Angeles, and then lived in Orinda, California. David currently resides in Malibu, with his wife Sharon and their two dogs, Stanley (a Dachshund) and Kona (a Chow mix rescue).
