In February 2002, David Olan and his wife Sharon hosted a fundraising event at their home in Brentwood, California to support Assemblyman Tom Umberg’s run for California Insurance Commissioner.
Assemblyman Tom Umberg is no stranger to public office having served in the Assembly in 1990 and winning reelection in 1992. In 1994 he was a candidate for California Attorney General. Nominated by former President Bill Clinton and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate, he served as Deputy Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy from 1997-2000. Prior to his appointment as “Drug Czar,” he served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Los Angeles.
Many community leaders and celebrities attended the event including the President of the Consumer Attorney’s of California (CAALA), Christine Spagnoli and actor, Perry King. Perry King is widely known for his roles in movies and television including The Lords of Flatbush (1974) and the Fox TV series Melrose Place (1995) and the NBC TV series Titans (2000).
In 1984 Perry King was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his performance in The Hasty Heart co-starring Gregory Harrison and Cheryl Ladd. Perry King is also the national spokesperson for Olive Crest Homes for Abused Children and has been involved with that particular charity for almost 20 years.
